While the summer season is drawing to an end, many of us are trying to soak in the last long and warm days before winter. August is an important month in this way, but did you know that August is also important to animals and their medical caregivers for another reason? August is National Pet Immunization Awareness Month, and our team here at Mooresville Animal Hospital wants to take this time to remind you to keep your pets up to date on their vaccinations.

August is National Pet Immunization Awareness Month: How’s Your Pet Doing?

Vaccinations are a safe, proven way to keep your pets safe from potentially harmful, and sometimes deadly, diseases. Not only do you ensure that you are keeping your pet safe from these diseases with the right vaccinations, but you also protect yourself and your family, since some diseases, such as Rabies, can be transmitted to humans. There are a number of vaccines that most boarders, groomers, and airlines require before allowing your pet entry. Some of these include:

For Cats:

  • Distemper
  • Calivirus
  • Rhinotracheitis
  • Rabies

For Dogs:

  • Bordatella (Parvovirus)
  • Distemper
  • Rabies
  • Adenovirus

These diseases, known as “core diseases,” are not the only possible vaccines that you can get to protect your pet, but are often the ones that will be required to receive certain services from professionals. Vaccines are critical to keeping your pet healthy, and we here at Mooresville Animal Hospital would like to help you stay on track with your vaccination schedule. Your pet’s vaccination schedule can vary based on age, breed, and even the lifestyle that your pet leads, and we encourage all pet parents to take the time to set up an appointment with their veterinarian today! Give us a call if you have any questions during National Pet Immunization Awareness Month.
